If I had to describe myself with one word, the first that comes to mind would definitely be anti-social. I spend at least 90% of my time indoors sleeping and browsing the internet. However, recently this has all changed due to the new Pokemon Go app.
To those of you who have been living under rocks or just have no interest in Pokemon, this is how the game works. Once you log in, you get a brief introduction to the game and you’re given a choice of three different Pokemon to choose as your starter. These include, Squirtle, Charmander, and Bulbasaur. Next, you are left on your own to start catching Pokemon. To do this, all you have to do is walk around with the app open on your phone and catch those that are nearby. There are pokestops placed at important landmarks at which you can obtain new items. Also, in major areas plotted around the map, there are gyms. At these gyms, you can battle with your Pokemon against others placed there and claim it with your faction.
For the last week that I’ve been playing this game, we’ve gone out almost everyday as a group on random Pokemon hunts in various locations. We’ve walked miles upon miles without even realising. Personally, I have never been much of a Pokemon fan until now but it’s a great way to get out of the house and do something pro-active. I haven’t done this much exercise in a long time and it doesn’t even feel like I’m putting any work in. Time goes so quickly whilst we’re out and I never realise how much time has actually passed until it starts getting dark and I realise that this game really has consumed my life.
If you’re thinking of giving this game a try, I recommend that you go with a group of friends and make sure to take some snacks and drinks with you for along the way. It also may be handy to check the weather forecast before hand, it might not be so great if you get caught out in the pouring rain. Another tip, if you’re planning on being out for a long time is to bring a spare battery or a portable charger just in case you run out of battery. HAPPY HUNTING!
